In this white paper, we highlight the motivation for supporting Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS), describe different deployment models and explain the features that were introduced by 3GPP Release 17. We also look at some of the aspects that will be addressed as part of 5G-Advanced in upcoming releases (i.e., Release 18 and beyond) to bring UAV support in NR on par with LTE and, in time, beyond.
